General Information of Tibet / Lhasa

Clothes items:
Specially warm cloths are strongly recommended to bring such as jacket, sweater, shirt with full sleeves, high neck, trousers, tracksuits, thermal underwear, waterproof and windproof jackets, warm cap (monkey cap) sunglasses and hat, search lights with additional bulbs and batteries, ultra violet sun cream, lips balm, essential items of toilet.

The Road
The land is dry and the road not paved but wide and graveled. Sometime landslide may happen but there is no need to worry, because “Chinese Army road builders” are on duty every few Km. The drive to Mt. Kailash is an incredible trip, you will be able to see the world highest Himalayas in the southern range, you will drive in the world highest plateau, meet Tibetan nomads, pilgrims and chanting monks.

Wheather conditions in Tibet :
The Tibet climate is undubtedly dry, cold and windy. In fluctuations of the weather is difficult to forecast. It is strongly requested to wear a pair of comfortable walking shoes in this tour. Be sure to bring necessary personal toilet items, since these items are not easily available during the routes.

Health and medicine:
Due to the unavibility of the hospitals and medical services enroute, we strongly recommend to the all our respective clients to bring their own first aid kit. The following problems may occur during the tour/trek, which we make aware of our clients on it before happening something bad.

 

  • An upset stomach most commonly caused due to unhygienic food and contaminated drinking water. It is a usual ailment and to avoid such kind of problems everyone should pay specific attention on own initiative in prevention on it.
  • A dry cough, catching cold, sore throat are known as common symptoms in the route that have the high possibility to the chest infection. The precautions could be taken by endeavouring not breathing in cold air directly though the mouth. To renounce the smoking would be the best preventive support to the travelers.
  • Muscle strains, sometimes (not often) multiple sclerosis, foot sore and blisters are possibly common problems on this tour. A mere walking training with the comfortable footwear definitely be the effective medications as well as helpful in prevention of such problems.
  • A fatal sickness normally may occur by the random altitude ascension known as Acute Mountain Sickness(AMS). So it is necessarily important to the every travelers who ascends more than 3000m should have proper knowledge of acclimatization. The most common symptoms of AMS are headache, dizziness, vomiting, irregular breathing, loss of appetite, nausea, unusual weariness, difficulty in sleeping, feeling fatigued. Immediate descent or evacuation to lower altitute is the only natural as well as most effective cure. An intake of sufficient amount of fluid will help to combat with such problem.


Food and beverage:
Our well-trained cooks from the Hotel Management and Tourism Training Centre (HMTTC) are always aware of cooking the varieties of hygienic food to avoid such above-mentioned problems. We serve vegetarian meal to our Indian fellow travellers besides this we would recommend them to bring their own supplement of the food like dry fruits, nuts, chocolates, and cookies for their personal interests.

Eqiupment:
We always supply best quality equipment to our clients as our tents are made of heavily coated water proof fabric and inner fly sheet are made of excellent quality of cottons while for the floor we use 100% water proof nylon tarpaulin. The poles of the tents are made of stong alumium. Even if the each capacity of the tents is normally 3 persons but we allow for 2 persons to ease and comfort our clients. We are providing our high quality sleeping bags and mattresses with a capacity of –20 degree Celsius.

Important pre-departure information:
We have been traveling in the most remote parts of the world since long time. Most of the time we will be away from the modern civilization. No doubt the group will overnight stay either in a guesthouses or in the trek-styled tented camp. We must be well equipped. The dinning tent is no doubt our meeting place and a toilet and shower tent will be pitched near by. Every morning's bed tea served by kitchen boy should construed clients as wake up calls. Breakfast will be served in the dinning tent and during the day packed lunch will be served. Our usual time for the bed tea at 7 a.m. break fast 8 a.m. then our Sherpa staff will dismantle the tents in order to pack up the equipment. Pack lunch will be served around 1 or 2 p.m. then in the eveining 6 p.m. will be the teatime and dinner around 8 p.m. This time will be definitely local time (Chinese Time).

We, on behalf of the Across The Himalayas Treks & Expeditions Pvt. Ltd always subject to put its every efforts to make our clients' journey perfect and wonderful. However, all the programs in Tibet are conducted strictly under the rules and regulations abide by the Tibet Tourism Bureau.

The Acorss the Himalayas Treks & Expeditions as well as our Tibetan Counterpart shall not be responsible for any changes and alterations in the itinerary due to unavoidable circumstances such as landslide, road blockage, flood, snow, political unrest, cancellation of flight, delay arrival, sicknesses or accidents. Any extra cost occurring because of such a circumstance shall be borne by the clients on the spot. It is strongly advised to our clients to be insured against medical and personal accidents.

Currency exchange:
Chinese Yuan is the prevailing currency in Tibet . Anyone can change this currency at the counter of the Nepal/Tibet border. The rates is always fluctuates due the foreign exchange currency rules and regulations.

Change rates: US $ 1.00 =Chinse Yuan 8.00. Indian Rs. 100.00 = Nepalese Rs. 160.00. Chinese Yuan 1.00 = Indian Rs. 8 approximately. Indian Rs. 500 and 1000 Rupee-notes are not accepted in the course of exchanging.
